In violation of international laws, values, ​​and norms, Israel continue bombing schools and educational institutions in Gaza, incurring massive infrastructure damage, MOE confirmed today.

 

The Ministry reported that 46 government schools and two buildings belonging to North & South Gaza Education Directorates, in addition to a number of private and UNRWA schools were shelled since the start of the brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza, leaving excessive damages to classrooms and school facilities and yards. As a result, additional burdens would weigh on the Palestinians who already suffer from a shortage of schools due to the difficult conditions the besieged Strip has been passing through.

 

In this context, Minister of Education Prof. Dr. Marwan Awartani expressed his condemnation and rejection of the escalating Israeli violations of the right to education in Gaza, which coincides with the Covid-19 pandemic challenges and the continued Israeli attacks on education in Jerusalem, the Jordan Valley, and Area C, affirming that such Occupation systematic polices aim at striking at the foundations of the Palestinian education which reflect survival, steadfastness, liberation, and development at all levels.

 

Awartani called upon all partner institutions and organizations that support education and finance school infrastructure to take a firm stand against these war crimes and put an end to attacking schools, as they should be safe places for children to learn.
